The Boston Bruins are preparing for Thursday’s Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the St. Louis Blues without captain and No. 1 defenseman Zdeno Chara, who did not return after he was hit in the face by a deflected puck on Monday night. The St. Louis Blues won 4-2 to even the series at two games apiece.

Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy offered no update on Chara’s condition Tuesday after arriving in Boston on Tuesday except to say the 2009 Norris Trophy winner was on his way to see a doctor.

Ryan O’Reilly scored the opening goal 43 seconds in and the winner with 9:22 left to lead the Blues in Game 4. This one was a back-and-forth thriller, with Boston’s Tuukka Rask and St. Louis’ Jordan Binnington each giving up tons of rebounds for frantic scoring chances and scrums. Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 11th goal of the playoffs, and Binnington made 21 saves to improve to 7-2 in the postseason after a loss.

Soccer: Sebastian Soto tied the score with his second goal of the match in the 74th minute and Justin Rennicks got the go-ahead goal in the 83rd to lead the United States over France 3-2 at Bydgoszcz, Poland, and into its third consecutive quarterfinal appearance at the Under-20 World Cup. … Cristiano Ronaldo will try to lead host Portugal to another European title in the inaugural UEFA Nations League. Portugal faces Switzerland on Wednesday in one seminfinal and England takes on the Netherlands in the other on Thursday.

Horse racing: Tacitus was made the slight favorite over Preakness winner War of Will in a Belmont Stakes that wraps up a whacky Triple Crown. Tacitus and War of Will got the outside No. 10 and 9 post positions, respectively, but those should not be a problem in the 1 race on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Golf: The PGA Tour is going to Bermuda for the first time with a new tournament that adds to the fall schedule. The Bermuda Championship will be played Oct. 31 through Nov. 3 at Port Royal. It will be held the same week as the HSBC Champions, a World Golf Championship event in Shanghai.

Obituary: Former Syracuse basketball star Billy Gabor, who went on to play for the Syracuse Nationals of the NBA, has died; believed to be the oldest living NBA player.
