Fisher Island is ranked among the wealthiest U.S. communities
Fisher Island remains one of the richest communities in the country.
The 33109 ZIP Code ranked 16th among the 130 wealthiest ZIP Codes in the United States, according to a 2020 report by the New York-based residential listing company PropertyClub.
The company analyzed closings and median sales prices from March through September. Fisher Island saw a median sales price of $3.071 million in that span, higher than its median sales price in 2019 of $1.95 million. In 2019, the island ranked 30th in the country.
“The driving factor behind the price growth on Fisher Island is an increase in the volume of higher-end, multi-million dollar sales on the island,” said Andrew Weinberger, the founder and CEO of PropertyClub, by email.
The California communities Atherton and Beverly Hills had the top two wealthiest ZIP Codes. The Long Island village of Sagaponack ranked third.
Sales activity on Fisher Island in recent months included a $12.2 million closing in May and a $13.5 million closing in June.
Despite an uptick in resales for below $1 million, the island drew more buyers closing on pricier units, Weinberger said by email. “The higher prices are part of a bigger trend of luxury buyers preferring exclusive suburban communities that are by the sea or mountains. Fisher Island and similar communities are more desirable in an age of social distancing and remote work.”
The 216-acre island has ranked among the most exclusive communities in the country over the years.
Another Florida community landed on the list — Boca Grande, a seaside village in southwest Florida. Boca Grande had a median sales price of $1.5 million.
Its ZIP Code, 33921, tied for 125th with five others.
