TWITTER TRIUMPH TURNING AROUND THINKING AHEAD

One of my wonderful nieces supports President Trump, but I still love her very much. She said something profound: “The president literally speaks to us everyday via social media and tells us everything he is doing and what’s up! He even asks us what we think! He’s like, the best president in my life time!”

Think about it. Trump’s use of Twitter touches her in ways no other candidate has ever done. He drowns out all of the so-called fake news with his own version of reality. Most important, she feels like he’s talking directly to her, not at her.

The Christian Right and the Republican Senate are turning on President Trump.

Really?

What made them realize that he is not the leader they all claimed?

Like the president, his supporters have exhibited a reckless disregard for human life.

The United States should reduce military spending. We realize that lobbyists come down hard on federal lawmakers, but we could safely reduce spending and our stockpiles of weapons. Furthermore, we could use those funds for badly needed social programs and infrastructure.

The United States could talk to and listen to China and Iran. All countries would want to improve the well-being of their citizens, as our nation should do.

It is time for the United States to rebuild the State Department, withdraw from all military interventions in the Islamic world and rejoin the climate treaty. This will not be easy to implement, but the American people will accept them if they are explained clearly and honestly.
