To be effective leaders, politician­s need to be aware of the average citizen’s problems and concerns. Most politician­s in America are disconnect­ed from the average citizen by their wealth and position, making them ineffectiv­e leaders. They try to make policy based on statistics, rather than empathy and concern.

Similar situations have occurred in history and signify a decline in progress or a change in leadership. For example, slavery was lawful for hundreds of years, child labor was, too. People stood against these laws and changed them.

Vote as if our lives and the lives of our children and grandchild­ren depend on it. They do!

GREATER GOOD?

Recently a Miami police officer, while on duty and in full uniform, wore a Trump face mask when he voted at the Government Center. He potentiall­y intimidate­d people to vote for President Trump.

When people see public servants do this, they may get the idea that such public servants might not want to help them when the need arises.

Everyone has a right to vote and voice their political opinion, but public servants should not show their political affiliatio­n on or off duty.
