Ravens ink Bryant to practice squad

- Leonard Floyd

The Ravens are signing wide receiver Dez Bryant to the practice squad after a second workout, according to multiple reports.

Bryant on Tuesday alluded to the impending move, writing on Twitter, “Put a shield over what you love and never give up … #flocknation #charmcity.”

The Ravens in August hosted Bryant for a workout but the former

Dallas Cowboys star struggled with his conditioning, according to a source. The team held another workout with Bryant last week.

Bryant, the No. 24 overall pick from the

2010 NFL draft, has amassed over 7,000 career receiving yards and 73 receiving touchdowns but hasn’t played in a regularseason game since the end of the 2017 season.

With Bryant, 31, on the practice squad, the Ravens could slowly get him acclimated to the offensive system and then elevate him to the active roster, or sign him outright to the 53-man roster, in hopes of boosting a passing offense that ranks second-to-last in passing yards per game.

Lions: Detroit acquired veteran defensive end Everson Griffen from Dallas for a conditional draft pick to strengthen one of the team’s weaknesses. The Lions (3-3) are in win-now mode under general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia after they were told by ownership their jobs were in jeopardy if the team didn’t at least contend for a spot in the playoffs this season. Without quarterback Dak Prescott, the Cowboys (2-5) are struggling and added an asset for a backup defensive end. Detroit has just eight sacks this season, ranking among the worst in the league at getting to quarterbacks. The 32-year-old Griffen has 77 career sacks, including 21⁄ this season as a

2 reserve in seven games with the Cowboys.

Cardinals: Arizona placed defensive end Zach Allen and linebacker

Isaiah Irving on injured reserve after a marathon game against the Seahawks. The Cardinals made the moves on Tuesday, two days after a 37-34 overtime victory over Seahawks that saw both teams run more than 80 plays. Arizona was playing its second game in just six days and several players left with injuries, including Allen (ankle), Irving (neck), defensive tackle

Jordan Phillips (hamstring), linebacker Jordan Hicks and running back

Kenyan Drake. The 23-year-old Allen is in his second season and has played in all seven games this year, including two starts. He has 11 tackles, two tackles for a loss and a sack. Irving left the Seattle game on a stretcher after a hard collision on a special teams play.

Panthers: Christian McCaffrey has been designated for return from the team’s injured reserve list, increasing the likelihood Carolina’s 2019 All-Pro running back will play Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. McCaffrey arrived at Panthers practice Tuesday with a red jersey and a baseball cap signifying an injured player, but he quickly changed into a black practice jersey and a helmet. McCaffrey hasn’t played since Week 2 when he suffered a high ankle sprain in a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bears: Coach Matt Nagy is sticking with quarterback Nick Foles over Mitchell Trubisky and intends to keep calling plays on offense at least for now. He made that clear Tuesday, a day after an ugly 24-10 loss to the Rams. The Bears’ poor performance at Los Angeles added more fuel to the idea that their sparkling record was more of a mirage than a reflection of how good they are. But if changes are coming, there won’t be one behind center. The Bears (5-2) fell out of the NFC North lead with their first road loss. And their quarterback had a difficult time with the offensive line getting overwhelmed. Foles completed 28 of 40 passes for 261 yards without a touchdown. He was sacked four times — twice by former Bears LB

and threw two picks.
