Florida COVID-19 cases pass 905,000 with addition of 7,925

Florida’s Department of Health on Wednesday confirmed 7,925 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s known total to over 900,000 cases, at 905,248, the third-highest number of cases in the country. Also, the state announced 87 resident deaths, bringing the resident death toll to 17,731.

The number of new deaths is the most since

Oct. 21 when the state announced 105.

The state also announced one new non-resident death on Wednesday, bringing that toll to 218.

●Miami- Dade County

reported 1,685 additional cases and eight new deaths, according to Florida’s Department of Health. The county has a total of 207,221 confirmed cases and 3,731 deaths. Positivity for new cases increased from 8.96% to 9.21%.

Broward County re

ported 775 additional cases and 10 new deaths. The county now has a known total of 97,475 cases and 10 deaths. Positivity for new cases decreased from

7.99% to 7.88%.

●Palm Beach County saw 502 additional cases and six new deaths. The county now has 59,656 confirmed cases and 1,641 deaths. Positivity for new cases decreased from

9.95% to 8.88%.

●Monroe County confirmed 38 additional cases and no new deaths. The county has a known total of 2,892 cases and holds at 25 deaths. Positivity for new cases increased from 6.67% to 11.73%.

Florida’s Department of Health reported the results of 95,706 people tested on Tuesday. The positivity rate of new cases (people who tested positive for the first time) decreased from

8.64% to 8.13%.

As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, there were 3,352 COVID-19 patients admitted into hospitals in the state, according to the Florida Agency for Health Care Administra­tion, This is a decrease from more than 5,000 in early August.

Of Wednesday’s hospitaliz­ations, 470 were in Dade, 310 in Broward, 238 in Palm Beach and eight in Monroe, according to the agency.
