SHAMEFUL POLICY ALL QUIET CROWNING TRUTH

-

ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND WHY THE PIZZA IS MADE ROUND, PACKED IN A SQUARE BOX

AND EATEN AS A TRIANGLE, THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND 2020.

The masking policy of the YMCA of South Florida (the Y) is that “You will not be expected to wear masks during your workout.”

By not expecting (much less requiring) members to wear masks when they are exhaling most heavily, the Y is not only showing indifference to community health, it has put into practice rules that show contempt for it.

Ironically, the Y is now embarked on a holiday fund drive based in part on the slogan that donations “make a lasting impact on [our] community.” If by lasting impact it means promoting policies to kill off our community’s elderly and those who are immune compromised, I guess that slogan is at least true.

But if the Y is implying that it is making a positive lasting impact on the community, its ridiculous antimasking policy makes its fund-raising slogan a contemptible lie.

Re the Dec. 3 letter “Go dark on Trump:” The writer suggests the media stop noticing the president’s consuming self-interest. Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have provided leadership on this for years. Their silence is deafening.

I was touched by one of Barack Obama’s recent interviews. He said that today we are forced to deal with “truth decay, something that’s been accelerated by Donald Trump.”

The play on words is quite amusing to me because as a dentist, tooth decay has always been quite treatable. Truth decay however, is a different matter.

Obama also said, “not only do we not have to tell the truth, but the truth doesn’t even matter.”

Hopefully, the new administration can reverse

The KVJ Show course on this potentially profound loss of one of the most basic tenets of human morals and integrity, and which our democracy depends upon.

The evangelicals’ tolerance of Trump’s blatant disregard for truth is reason enough to be concerned.

The world will go in the wrong direction if we lose our moral compass. Truth is the measure which we depend upon for our collective guidance.

Unfortunately, there is no fluoride treatment to prevent truth decay. We can only hope and pray that our better selves emerge and prevail.
