VACCINE ACCESS ‘‘
MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION IS TO NOT EAT AN OREO EVERY TIME I WALK INTO THE KITCHEN. @natalinanoel
What’s the use in calling Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach for an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine if all I get is a recording saying to leave my name and contact numbers?
I have tried to get an appointment for my 93year-old mother multiple times for over a week. No one has contacted me. Meanwhile, celebrities and politicians get the vaccine without waiting in any line.
My mother doesn’t live in a nursing home or community of the elderly. She is at home and cannot wait in lines for 12 hours overnight to try to get the vaccine. This whole situation is ridiculous and dangerous for seniors.
In Florida, it’s who you know that will determine one’s access to the vaccine.

TOTAL MESS
My husband and I are 75 and feel fortunate that we can shelter comfortably at home. We have no serious health issues. Medical and essential workers deserve to receive the vaccine before other groups and we have no desire to jump the line.
However, when the state declared that my age group was eligible, it seemed reasonable to try to make an appointment at a local hospital. Of course, we found that hospitals were inundated with calls and physicians themselves were not able to provide information as to how and when we could get our vaccines.
A friend said the roll-out seems ridiculously disorganized. This is not surprising given Florida’s lack of leadership on Covid-related issues. It should not be too much to ask for clear information on an orderly procedure for vaccinations, stating when and where they can be obtained.
