Jaguars, Chargers join list of teams to fire coaches
Black Monday, the day when NFL coaches are often shown the door, wasn’t as grim this year. But that was only because so many coaches had already been fired.
Doug Marrone of the Jaguars was the first to learn his fate, with the news confirmed in a statement from Jacksonville owner Shad Khan, who is also in the market for a new general manager.
Hours later, the Los Angeles Chargers dismissed Anthony Lynn, one of only three Black NFL coaches. Lynn had a 33-31 regular-season record in four seasons but had posted losing records in the past two.
Lynn and Marrone joined Adam Gase of the New York Jets, who lost his job Sunday.

Judge buried the Philadelphia Eagles for tanking, but not because Sunday’s loss kept the Giants out of the playoffs. Judge sounded off because he said the Eagles’ tactics were disrespectful to everyone who sacrificed to make this season possible. “To disrespect the game by going out there and not competing for 60 minutes and doing everything you can to help those players win, we will never do that as long as I’m the head coach of the New York Giants,” he said.
