Ted Tally, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay adaptation of “The Silence of the Lambs,” crafted his screenplay (with Peter Craig) for this 2018 combat drama from a nonfiction book by Doug Stanton, about the U.S. Army Special Forces sent to Afghanistan immediately after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The strong cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Geoff Stults and Thad Luckinbill, who is also one of the producers. Nicolai Fuglsig directed.
8PM (HBO) MOVIE Argo Director and star Ben Affleck’s superb, Oscar-nominated 2012 drama is the true story of a CIA effort to get several American diplomats out of Iran during the late-1970s hostage crisis. Affleck plays an agent who poses as a producer of a supposed monster movie — “Argo” — and races the clock to retrieve the would-be captives by having them pretend to be his crew. The firstrate cast also includes Alan Arkin, John Goodman and Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”).
10:03 PM (LIFE) Long Island Serial Killer: Enhanced Edition This new half-hour special, airing as a companion piece to tonight’s docudrama, includes new content and law enforcement interviews concerning police efforts to solve the case of the Long Island Serial Killer, as well as Mari Gilbert’s search to uncover the truth. TV journalist Deborah Norville shares her own insights she received while she was reporting for “Inside Edition.”
