8 AM Tennis(ESP2) 2021 Australian Open The culmination of two weeks of stellar tennis comes today at Melbourne Park as the winners of the women’s semifinals meet in today’s final at the Australian Open. Last year, 21-yearold Sofia Kenin rallied from a set down to defeat former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to become the first American to win a major title since Serena Williams in 2002.
8 PM (LIFE) MOVIE The Long Island Serial Killer: A Mother’s Hunt for Justice Kim Delaney stars in this 2021 docudrama as Mari Gilbert, who embarked on a search for the truth about what really happened to her daughter Shannan (Katharine Isabelle), a part-time escort who disappeared after a “date” on Long Island. Mari keeps pressing the local police for answers, pleading with them to take her worries seriously. The subsequent investigation turns up a horror that had gone undetected for a decade, as the bodies of 19 young women are found buried in shallow graves in Jones Beach State Park.
8PM (AMC) MOVIE 12 Strong
Ted Tally, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay adaptation of “The Silence of the Lambs,” crafted his screenplay (with Peter Craig) for this 2018 combat drama from a nonfiction book by Doug Stanton, about the U.S. Army Special Forces sent to Afghanistan immediately after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The strong cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Geoff Stults and Thad Luckinbill, who is also one of the producers. Nicolai Fuglsig directed.
8PM (HBO) MOVIE Argo Director and star Ben Affleck’s superb, Oscar-nominated 2012 drama is the true story of a CIA effort to get several American diplomats out of Iran during the late-1970s hostage crisis. Affleck plays an agent who poses as a producer of a supposed monster movie — “Argo” — and races the clock to retrieve the would-be captives by having them pretend to be his crew. The firstrate cast also includes Alan Arkin, John Goodman and Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”).
