^ American Masters The new episode “Flannery” explores the life and work of Flannery O’Connor, the Georgia-born novelist, essayist and story story writer whose fiction — especially her novels “Wise Blood” and “The Violent Bear It Away” — was unlike anything published before. A devout Roman Catholic, O’Connor frequently explored themes of morality and ethics in her work, yet her style was unsentimental and even sardonic. This 90-minute special includes previously unaired archival footage, newly discovered O’Connor journals and interviews with actor Tommy Lee Jones and poet and essayist Mary Karr, among others.
