The world’s largest cryptocurrency conference is coming to Miami. And it’s bringing the head of Twitter with it.

Originally slated for Los Angeles, Bitcoin 2021 is now planned for June 3-5 at the MANA Wynwood event center. Headline speakers include Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, billionaire venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya — and Tony

Hawk, who will perform live skateboarding. The conference was born in San Francisco in 2019. A special event for cryptocurrency “whales” — or highnet-worth cryptocurrencyholders — is also scheduled.

Organizers expect as many as 10,000 attendees.

“Our team is extremely excited to welcome our attendees for the first time in Miami, a city which has taken significant strides in the past few months to welcome and support the growing [bitcoin] community,” said David Bailey, CEO of event organizer BTC Media, in a statement.

Conference organizers said Los Angeles’ COVID-19 restrictions and a personal appeal by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez were responsible for the conference’s move east. Suarez is listed as a featured speaker; he made headlines this year when he advocated for paying city employees in cryptocurrency and investing city funds in cryptocurrency.

The price of Bitcoin, the most well-known cryptocurrency, has soared to as much as $61,000 this year, though it has since settled back down to some $54,000.

Said MANA Wynwood namesake Moishe Mana, “Our vision for Miami as a global tech hub is becoming more real each day. We’re thrilled to support an event like this, which furthers our mission and fuses all the best things Miami has to offer, from technology to international finance, entertainment and commerce.”
