9PM (NGEO) Genius: Aretha In “Chain of Fools,” Aretha (Cynthia Erivo) is desperate to remain relevant as disco reigns as the dominant musical style, so she stoops to stealing an opportunity from her sister Carolyn (Rebecca Naomi Jones). At a Grammy Awards ceremony that ends disappointingly for her, Aretha meets an important music label executive, but she and longtime producer Jerry Wexler (David Cross) part ways. Then, in the finale “No One Sleeps,” Aretha overcomes several emotional losses to craft a monumental career comeback.
