Heritage’s Clanton wins golf tourney

Luke Clanton of the American Heritage (Plantation) boys’ golf team won the 13th annual Tournament of Champions at the Providence Country Club in Davenport.

Clanton, the medalist/ individual champion, shot 4-under (73-67--140) on the par 72 course, including an eagle and three birdies on the last four holes. He is the fifth player from Heritage to win the championsh­ip.

Ponte Vedra won the team title. The Patriots placed seventh.

SF PGA WEST TOURNAMENT

The Columbus boys’ golf team won the annual 36-hole South Florida

PGA West Tournament at Crown Colony Golf and Country Club in Lee County.

With lightning fast greens, tight fairways and a lot of wind, it was no easy task.

The Explorers shot 2-under par 286 on day one and followed up with 7-over 295 on day two to win the team title by 15 strokes over Lakewood Ranch.

The two-day tournament featured 10 teams.

Christian Figueredo, a junior for Columbus, tied for second with 142, one shot behind Noah Kent of Gulf Coast.

Also for Columbus, Max Fonseca, a junior, tied for sixth at 145. Sebastian Kawas, another junior, tied for eighth at 146.

Freshman Victor Herrera tied for 12th at 149, and Hans Risvaer, a junior, tied for 14th at 151.

Freshman Lorenzo Rodriguez was fifth at 144 for fifth place Belen Jesuit.

Columbus won another team title, and Matthew Yamin of Miami Country Day took medalist honors during the Maverick Invitation­al Boys' Golf Tournament at Grand Palms Golf Resort (Grand/Sabal Course) in Pembroke Pines.
