19,000 more vaccinations, hospitalizations edge down
A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report on Sunday showed 3,001 COVID-19 patients listed from 255 Florida hospitals, continuing a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.
That’s 72 fewer patients than Saturday’s report from 255 hospitals. In Sunday’s report, COVID-19 patients occupied 5.41% of inpatient beds in those hospitals, compared with 5.53% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.
The percentage number is based on 255 hospitals reporting 3,001 inpatient beds in use for COVID-19 patients and 55,506 total inpatient beds.
Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 809 people were in intensive care units, a decrease of 26 from the previous day’s report. That represents 12.88% of the ICU beds at the 255 hospitals reporting data, compared to 13.20% of those reporting Saturday.
This number is based on 255 hospitals reporting 809 ICU beds in use for COVID-19 patients and 6,279 total ICU beds.
Sunday’s Miami-Dade County report said there were 255 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals on Saturday, a decrease of 51 from the previous day’s report. Of the 23 new COVID patients, 18 (78.3%) had not been vaccinated. Intensive care patients numbered 67, a drop of 19 from the previous day.
About 12,636,057 eligible Floridians — 58.8% of the state’s population — had completed the twodose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
That’s an increase of 19,172 over Saturday’s report from the CDC.
The CDC reported that most counties have a “substantial” level of community transmission and a few have “moderate” level, but MiamiDade still has a :high” level.
Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida, according to the CDC.
In Miami-Dade County, about 2,020,331 people, or 74.1% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
In Broward County,
about 1,222,192 people are fully vaccinated, or 62.6% of the county’s population.
In Palm Beach County,
about 888,476 people are fully vaccinated, or 59.4% of the county’s population.
In Monroe County,
about 51,341 people are fully vaccinated, or 69.2% of the county’s population.
