Embiid powers 76ers to victory

- From Miami Herald Wire Services

Joel Embiid shook off lingering pain in his right knee and scored 30 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 110-102 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.

Embiid remains hampered by a right knee that hasn’t been right since he suffered a torn meniscus during last season’s playoffs. Embiid’s numbers were off a bit compared to his career bests, yet the 7-footer has played in every game with the Sixers still without fellow All-Star Ben Simmons.

Embiid’s health was debated to the point that fans and media believed the center should take the game off against the winless Pistons for one more day of rest before the Sixers play Saturday.

Saddiq Bey led the Pistons with 19 points. Tobias Harris scored 17 points and Maxey had 16 for the Sixers.

Wizards 122, Hawks 111: Bradley Beal scored 27 points and Montrezl Harrell added 25 with 13 rebounds to lift the Washington Wizards to a 122111 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday.

The Wizards (4-1) continued their impressive start under new coach Wes Unseld Jr., winning this time without new point guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
