Canadiens’ Allen has 22 saves to blank Red Wings

-

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen made 22 saves in a 3-0 home win against the Detroit Red Wings at Bell Centre on Tuesday.

Allen’s shutout was his second in his past three starts. He made 45 saves in a 4-0 win at the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 28.

Nick Suzuki had a goal and two assists, Brendan Gallagher added a goal and an assist, and Tyler Toffoli pitched in two assists for Montreal (38-0).

Alex Nedeljkovic made 38 saves for Detroit (44-2), which is 0-2-1 in its past three games and 0-3-0 this season without forward Tyler Bertuzzi, who did not play because he is unvaccinated against COVID-19.

The Red Wings were also without captain Dylan Larkin, who did not play for personal reasons.

Suzuki scored his first goal of the season to put Montreal ahead 1-0 at 2:06 of the first period, batting in his own rebound after his initial backhand from in front was saved by Nedeljkovic.

Josh Anderson made it 2-0 at 9:18 of the first. He took a stretch pass off the boards from Suzuki and scored on a shot under Nedeljkovic's glove from the left circle.

Gallagher scored into an empty net with 2:01 remaining in the third for the 3-0 final.

Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin was taken to the hospital after he was hit in the head by a rising shot from Brett

Kulak at 7:40 of the first period.

Flyers 3, Coyotes 0: Sean Couturier broke a scoreless tie early in the third period and Carter Hart made 29 saves to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-0 victory over the winless Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist and Scott Laughton also scored for the Flyers, who have won three of four.

Arizona (0-9-1) lost its 10th game to start the season and remains the only winless team in the NHL. The Coyotes, who dropped a club-record 11 in a row to begin the 2017-18 season, will look for their first victory when they wrap up a six-game trip on Friday at Anaheim. Arizona did pick up a point with a shootout loss to Buffalo on Oct. 16.

The 1943-44 Rangers set the NHL record, going 15 games without a win to start the season.

Maple Leafs 4, Golden Knights 0: Auston Matthews scored twice and Jack Campbell made 26 saves, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-0 win over the shorthanded Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.

The Maple Leafs won their third straight.

Mitch Marner had a goal and assists on both Matthews’ goals. William Nylander added a goal and an assist.

Marner scored in the first period for a second straight game. Matthews notched a power-play goal early in the second and scored again late in the second period.

Campbell stopped 12 shots in the third and earned his first shutout since stopping the Calgary Flames 2-0 on March 20, 2021.

The Maple Leafs outshot the Golden Knights 34-26.
