Pastelito cocktails and lots of neon: This new cocktail bar pays tribute to Miami

The Tipsy Flamingo is here to elevate your drinking habits.

The new bar from Last Call Hospitality Group — responsible for Redbar Drink Company in Brickell and Sweet Caroline Karaoke Bar — marries upscale cocktail culture with a Miami vibe. Yes. That means a lot of neon and a lot of hot pink, possibly more than your eyes have witnessed in quite a while.

“Basically, we took the best characteristics of Miami from the tropical ambiance and colors to the sounds and blended them together to create a unique and intimate venue,” said co-owner Juan Marcos Rancano in a press release.

This means that the 1,300-square-foot spot is all about (fake) foliage, palm leaf wallpaper and — as we mentioned before — neon (including a sign that proclaims “No Flocks Given”). Did we mention hot pink is a major theme?

A casual happy hour begins at 5 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m., with $5 beer and wine, $7 drinks and $9 Flamingo Punch (note: we don’t exactly know what is in it, so order wisely). As the night goes on, the Tipsy Flamingo takes on a more upscale lounge-like atmosphere, with local DJs spinning a mix of hip hop, funk, disco and reggaeton.

On Tuesdays, women drink free from 8-11 p.m., while stand-up comedians try out their jokes on Sunday nights.

Created by Marco Balza, the cocktail menu also pays tribute to the Magic City. The bar’s version of the classic Cuba Libre is called the Downtown Mentirita.

Specialty cocktails include Miccosukee Slammer (Volcan Blanco Tequila, lime juice, apricot syrup, egg whites, Tajin and Peychaud’s bitters) and River of Grass (Pierde Almas Mezcal, lime juice, celery bitters, mint and coconut water). My English Is Not Very Good Looking — with Canaima Gin, guava marmalade, lime juice, orange bitters, cream cheese foam and Galleta Maria crumbs — allegedly tastes like a pastelito de guayaba. We have not yet tasted it, but you can be sure we will investigate further.
