Immaculata LaSalle sails to 2nd place in Sarasota regatta
ILS sailing from Immaculata LaSalle High School finished second of 22 schools at the SouthPoints #3 regatta, sanctioned by SAISA (South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association).
Skippering the A division boat for ILS at SouthPoints #3 in Sarasota was Mitchell Callahan with crew Danny Riano. Sophomore skipper Umi Noritake led the B division boat with a crew rotation of Holland Ramos and Caroline Caudron.
The organizers ran only five races because of challenging weather conditions.
ILS will continue training and will resume competition at SouthPoints #4 on Jan. 8, hosted by Ransom Everglades in Miami. It is the last local regatta of the season, and spectators are welcome. Last year’s event did not allow spectators because of COVID concerns.

SOCCER SPOTLIGHT
Coach Jeff Watson loves the game of soccer.
He has given much time and energy to the sport, helping not only the many soccer players he’s coached at Miami Country Day School in Miami Shores but also many more, recognizing their efforts for awards and honors, too.
Watson has coached high school soccer for nearly 40 years. Quite the accomplishment.
During that time, this FACA Hall of Famer has coached a state championship team and has totaled more than 500 wins, but his “greatest privilege” was coaching his two sons, Quinton and Keeler. Both made Miami Herald AllDade first team and FACA All-State first team.
Watson added: “Now as I am coming close to the end of my coaching career, I have the privilege of having my two sons as assistant coaches with me at Miami Country Day School. Both have fulltime jobs, but since we practice every day from 6:15-8:30 [p.m.], they both can help me coach my high school soccer team.”
The Spartans are 2-1-1 so far this season and looking forward to another successful term with Watson (and now his sons) at the helm.
