Last-minute shopping needed? What’s open and closed on Thanksgiving
Almost everything — even the retail cash registers — stops for Thanksgiving Day. But there’s still certain places you can rely on to make a last-second run for stuffing or seasonings instead of traversing over the Miami River and through the suburbs to your grandmother’s house.
Here’s what’s open, closed and in operation on Thanksgiving Day.
CHAIN SUPERMARKETS
Publix: All stores and pharmacies closed.
Winn-Dixie and Fresco Y Mas: All stores and pharmacies closed.
Sedano’s: All stores open until 6 p.m.
Milam’s Market: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Grove Liquors open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Price Choice: Call your location of choice. Some are open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Trader Joe’s: All stores closed.
Whole Foods Market: Most stores open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
BIG BOX
BJ’s Wholesale: All stores closed. Open at 7 a.m. on Friday.
Costco: All stores closed. Open at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Target: All stores and pharmacies closed.
Walmart: All stores and pharmacies closed. Open at 5 a.m. on Friday.
PHARMACY CHAINS
CVS/Navarro: Regular hours for most locations. CVS pharmacies are likely to close at 2 p.m. Navarro pharmacies are likely to be closed.
Walgreens: Regular hours at most stores, but the pharmacies will be closed.
SHOPPING MALLS
Aventura Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 8 a.m. Friday.
Dadeland Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Dolphin Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 8 a.m. Friday.
The Falls: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 7 a.m. Friday.
Florida Keys Outlet Marketplace: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Miami International Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Sawgrass Mills: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Westfield Broward Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 7 a.m. Friday. Westland Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
MASS TRANSIT
Miami-Dade: Metrorail and Metromover will operate on a weekend schedule and Metrobus on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, all three will operate on a weekday schedule. All DTPW administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Special Transportation Service customers can still reserve or cancel a trip by calling 305-871-1111. Broward: Broward County Transit will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thanksgiving Day and a modified weekday schedule on Friday. Customer
Service will be available to provide trip-planning assistance at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) for fixed and paratransit routes on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Also on Thursday, Customer Service staff will be available from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at BCT’s Main Terminal, 101 NW
First Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, and Lauderhill Transit Center, 1359 NW 40th Ave. Tri-Rail: Thanksgiving Day, service will run on a weekend/holiday schedule.
GARBAGE
Miami: Garbage, bulky waste and recycling collection will be done as normal. Miami-Dade: Garbage and recycling collection and disposal facilities will be open normal hours.
Fort Lauderdale: Regular pickups of garbage, yard waste, recycling and bulk. Broward County: None on Thanksgiving Day.
Other municipalities, check with your wastemanagement provider.
COURTS, COUNTY OFFICES, SCHOOLS
Miami-Dade: Closed Thursday and Friday. Broward: Closed Thursday and Friday.
LIBRARIES
Miami-Dade: Closed Thanksgiving Day, but you can go to the eBooks and eAudioBooks page. The Customer Care team will be available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at customercare@mdpls.org. Broward: Closed on Thanksgiving Day — but the online catalog is always open.
