American Airlines, the biggest carrier at Miami International Airport, announced Wednesday the addition of four international and six domestic routes to give the airline 378 daily flights from Miami, its most ever.

Expanding during the busy winter season, American will fly to Chetumal, Mexico; San Andres, Colombia, and to Dominica and Anguilla. Also, new flights are slated to six U.S. destinations.

“This winter we’ve doubled down on our commitment to Miami, hiring more than 1,500 new team members and adding new destinations, more frequencies to existing markets and more wide-body flying,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, vice president of American’s Miami hub operations. “As a result, American will be operating the largest schedule in the history of our Miami hub, serving more passengers than ever before.”

The four additional flights to Latin America solidify the Miami airport’s longstanding position as the gateway to the region and are contributing to record passenger traffic at the airport. Envoy will operate the biweekly flights with Embraer 175 airplanes designed for short to midrange flights.

Airport officials said they expected to move 1.7 million passengers during the 12-day Thanksgiving travel period from Nov. 19-30, the busiest in the airport’s history for that holiday and the heaviest traffic since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

American Airlines is now flying nearly 380 flights daily from Miami to 140 destinations, a 19% increase in seat availability compared to the pre-pandemic winter season of 2019-2020.

“Thanks to American’s steadfast commitment over the last year and a half as our largest airline partner,

MIA has rebounded from the pandemic to become the fastest-growing airport in the U.S. and the busiest U.S. airport for international passengers,” said Ralph Cutié, the Miami airport’s director and CEO.

The flight to Dominica will be the first regularly scheduled direct flight from the United States to the tiny English-speaking Caribbean island.

Meanwhile, American is also adding a daily flight to Salt Lake City, Utah, and weekly flights on Saturday to five domestic destinations in the winter season: Albany, New York; Burlington, Vermont; Madison, Wisconsin; Syracuse, New York; and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
