Key Biscayne, Florida - Paulina Diaz de Castillo passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at home in Key Biscayne, Florida.

Affectionally known as Pomy, Paulina was born on February 8, 1931, in Mexico City, the fourth child of Margarita Pizarro and Porfirio Diaz and the first of their children born in Mexico after the family returned from a twenty-year exile in France. She grew up joyfully among six siblings and loving parents.

As an adult, she joined the Mexican diplomatic corps, serving in Spain and later in the U.S.A. While in Madrid, she met her beloved husband, Joaquin Castillo Montalvo. Joaquin was a widower with four young children. They married in 1965 and had three more children, raising a family of seven. They eventually moved to Miami, Florida, where he became ill.

Pomy cared for her husband until his passing in 1991 and remained devoted to his memory.

Paulina was beloved by many and will always be remembered for her softness, kindness, love of her family, faith and devotion to the church, and her dignity, culture, and elegance. She leaves a great absence in the hearts of her children and grandchildren and in her community of St. Agnes Church, where she attended mass daily until she became homebound.

Joaquin Castillo Montalvo, Joaquin Castillo Armiñan, and Alvaro Luis Castillo Contreras predeceased Paulina and await her in heaven. Paulina is survived by the remaining (6) children, Maria Dolores Castillo, Ana Maria Castillo (and Pablo), Alvaro Castillo (and Claudia), Xavier Castillo (and Cathy), Pablo Castillo, and Paulina Castillo (and Jason). Also grieving her are eleven grandchildren.

Father Foltyn will officiate a mass for her eternal rest at St. Agnes Church on Key Biscayne. The service will commence at 4 pm February 6, 2023.

The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the St. Agnes Catholic Church community for bringing daily communion to her at home, and for their compassion, love, and companionship.
