LaSalle cheerleade­rs win third state championsh­ip

The LaSalle cheerleadi­ng team won the FHSAA state championsh­ip in the Class 1A Extra Large Non Tumbling Division in Gainesvill­e.

This marks the third state title for the Royal Lions (2020, 2021, 2023).

Carol City was a close second.

LaSalle qualified for the state semifinals at regionals by placing fourth. At state, the Royal Lions brought their “A” game. They competed in the semifinals on Friday afternoon, advancing to the state finals, where they won.

Some of the team’s juniors and seniors have now won two or three state titles.

Emirzian, Dafna Law, Daniela Del Valle, Delani Perez, Megan Dominguez, Elena Gonzalez, Gabriella Diaz, Jasmine Gago, Kalina Brana, Annette Labrada, Silvana Levito, Mariette Manso, Isabela Mei-Lin Martinez, Mia Gomez, Nadia Pages, Natalia Sabbagh, Sofia Plasencia, Samantha Reyes, Zaharie Santana, Sofia Melendez, Renata Vadala and Sofia Lambert.

The head coach is Coral D. Buxeda and the assistant coach Karyn Hernandez.

More in Class 1A: St. Brendan was second in the Large Division. Keys Gate-Homestead was third in Large Non Tumbling and Key West sixth in Small Non Tumbling.

In Small Coed, Coral Springs Charter was third, just 0.2 points from second and 1 point from first.

In Class 2A, Dillard, Miramar and West Broward won state titles.

It marks the first time in school history Miramar celebrated a state championsh­ip in cheerleadi­ng. The Patriots were first in the Small Non Tumbling Division.

Miramar advanced to the state semifinals by winning regionals at Coral Glades High School. Miramar is the only school in Broward County that is considered a triple-crown winner this season — winning the BCAA District Championsh­ip, FHSAA Regional Championsh­ip and FHSAA State Championsh­ip.

The triple-crown winners are: Shakayla White (Captain), Anyjah Porter (Cocaptain), Ryan Williams (Co-captain), Anjelina Telfort, Laureen Joseph, Pashance Henderson, Aniya Emanuel, Paris Jones, Nicole Ampy, Elisia Lampart, Alannah Metellus, Daija Newsome, Aaliyah Martinez, Delkino Pinkston, Frantzyala Cherelus and Alexis Brown.

The head coach is Tanya Jones, MSW. West Broward won the Medium Non Tumbling Division. That’s back-toback state championsh­ips for the Bobcats and the sixth overall (2011, 2012, 2013, 2020, 2022, 2023).

The champs are: Izabella Garcia, Sophia Dominguez, Annabella Maldonado, Liberty

Mongera, Brady Brocato, Ava Dominguez, Elisa Ortuzar, Briana O’Connell, Nylah Harper, Jasmine Bolanos, Stefanie Ion, Ella Castillo, Guilia Zuniga, Rachel Zimmerman, Leah James, Allan Ascencion, Balkan

Ertekin and Jordyn Cypress.

The coaches are: Danielle Culbertson, Amber San Angelo, Carlos Hechavarri­a, Corey Jackson and Pablo Soto.

Stoneman Douglas was third and Mater Academy eighth.

Dillard finished first in Large Non Tumbling. Coral Glades with third and Piper fourth.

Doral Academy placed second in 2A Extra Large Division. Western was fourth in 2A Medium Division and Lourdes sixth.

Monarch took runner-up honors in Medium Coed.
