A look at who’s on first team as Canes resume practice after spring break

- BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN sdegnan@miamiherald.com

The Hurricanes resumed practice Tuesday after a week off for spring break, and there was plenty of loud chatter and instruction and enthusiasm at Greentree Field.

The players were “thudding” in jerseys, shoulder pads, shorts and helmets. Translation: contact without tackling to the ground.

In roughly 30 minutes of media viewing, several players wore red, nocontact jerseys, but most, if not all, were running around and practicing.

The red-jerseyed players: receivers Michael Redding, Frank Ladson (left leg in a black sleeve), Nathaniel Joseph (left leg in a black sleeve) and Robby Washington; and walkon defensive back Myles Mooyoung of Chicago, listed as a third-year sophomore.

Also wearing red: Freshman tight end Riley Williams, from Portland, Oregon, and out of IMG Academy; and defensive tackle Jake Lichtenstein.

The quarterbacks were all out there: starter

Tyler Van Dyke, backup

Jacurri Brown and early enrollee Emory Williams. Their first-team bodyguards were the same from the last practice we attended: left tackle Jalen Rivers, left guard Javion Cohen, center Matt Lee, right guard Anez Cooper and right tackle Francis

Mauigoa.

The first-team receivers: Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George and

Colbie Young. Tight end

Cam McCormick was with them.

The first-team running back: Henry Parrish.

The second-team offensive line, left to right: Samson Okunlola, Laurance Seymore, Ryan Rodriguez, Logan Sagapolu and Michael McLaughlin. Jaleel Skinner was at tight end,

Don Chaney at running back and Brashard Smith, Isaiah Horton and Robby Washington at receiver.

On defense, fifth-year senior Keontra Smith and third-year junior transfer (Washington State) Francisco Mauigoa, the older brother of offensive tackle Francis, were at first-team linebacker, with Wesley Bissainthe and Corey Flagg Jr. practicing at second team.

BENEDICK HYPPOLITE

He was at UM, left to go to the Florida Gators, and has returned.

Benedick Hyppolite

posted on social media Tuesday a #NewProfilePic of him in an orange U shirt. His Twitter profile now says “Offensive analyst RB University of Miami.”

Hyppolite was previously a graduate assistant in 2020 and ’21 with Miami, then got hired away by the Gators as the running backs quality control coach in Feburary 2022.
