Miami Beach boys’ soccer team goes back-to-back

Senior forward Daniel Jurado scored both goals as the Miami Beach boys’ soccer team won back-toback district titles, defeating Varela 2-0 in the District 16-6A final.

Senior midfielder Daniel Albertos scored the lone (winning) goal for Doral Academy in the District 15-7A championsh­ip.

The NSU University School boys’ soccer team won its sixth consecutiv­e district title by edging Calvary Christian 2-1 in the District 13-3A final. In the semifinals, NSU University beat Coral Springs Charter, and Calvary shut out Pine Crest.

In a close District 14-6A final, St. Thomas Aquinas edged South Plantation in a shootout, outscoring the Paladins 4-3 on PKs.

MORE SOCCER PLAYOFFS

The Stoneman Douglas girls’ soccer team won its 27th district title, beating Coral Glades in the District 13-7A finals. In the semifinals, the Eagles defeated Taravella, and Coral Glades edged Coral Springs.

Senior forward Anto Solari scored both goals as the Cypress Bay girls’ program won its ninth consecutiv­e district title with a 2-1 District 14-7A championsh­ip win over Western. This marks the soccer team’s 20th district title in the school’s 23 years — 15 of those with Coach Kate Dwyer at the helm.

In District 15-7A, Doral Academy won another district title; that’s two consecutiv­e since moving to 7A last season. It marks the sixth district championsh­ip in program history and 13th consecutiv­e regional appearance.

In a tight battle, Shayla Delacruz scored the winner with about three minutes remaining, beating a defender on the wing and then sending a hard, slicing shot upper near post as NSU University School edged Coral Springs Charter 1-0 for a District 13-3A title.

Edison remains undefeated, improving to 14-0 after beating Divine Savior 4-2 for the District 14-3A championsh­ip.

On Senior Night, senior Allison Podvin scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and senior Nicole Quevedo added 10 points to help Gulliver Prep girls’ basketball defeat LaSalle. Freshman teammate Mikayla Brown totaled 18 points and four steals.

Cardinal Gibbons traveled to Port St. Lucie and won an exciting battle in overtime over St. Lucie West Centennial. Kayla Greyvenste­yn continued her stellar season, leading the Chiefs to victory.

Another double-double for North Miami sophomore J’adore Hayes, this time with 28 points, 25 rebounds and five blocks versus South Dade.
