Roberts scores 26, UM women edge Clemson for season sweep

Jasmyne Roberts tied a career high with 26 points, Jaida Patrick reached 1,000 for her career and Miami (17-10, 7-9 ACC) outrebound­ed host Clemson (11-17, 4-12 ACC) by 17 in a 56-50 win Sunday afternoon.

Roberts went 11 for 15 from the floor, tallying six boards. Patrick finished with 11 points and Ja’Leah Williams grabbed eight boards to go with four points, three steals and a block.

Miami held Clemson under 30 percent shooting in the first quarter, with Patrick and Lashae Dwyer draining threepoint­ers as the Canes held a 13-8 lead after the first. Miami pulled ahead, 18-11, but Clemson went on a

7-0 run to even things up. A defense-heavy first half concluded all tied up at 23-23 as Roberts’ eight points paced the Canes.

Tied at 32-32, Miami went on a 9-0 run and held Clemson 3 for 13 from the field in the quarter, creating a 41-32 lead. Miami outscored the Tigers by 10 in the third quarter for a 43-33 lead at the end of the third.

Clemson went on a 15-4 run out of the start of the fourth, taking its first lead since early in the third quarter. But, Roberts tied her career high with another two, giving Miami a 49-48 lead. When Miami needed it most, Shayeann Day-Wilson drilled a corner three-pointer with 22 seconds to go in the game, putting it away.

scored consecutiv­e goals early in the second period for the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, who completed a successful weekend by beating the New Jersey Devils 4-1 in Newark, N.J.

Nikita Kucherov added an empty-netter for the Lightning, who swept a back-to-back road set against the Devils and

New York Islander. Kucherov had four points in the game and leads the NHL with 102 points.

NBA: Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 30 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists to lift the Milwaukee Bucks past the host Philadelph­ia 76ers 119-98. Damian Lillard

added 24 points and nine assists, as the Bucks won their second in a row in coach Doc Rivers’ first game in Philadelph­ia against his former team . ... Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will undergo surgery to repair an injury to his left pinkie finger and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, the team announced. Young sustained the injury during Atlanta’s 123-121 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday. He underwent an MRI on Saturday, which revealed a tear of the radial collateral ligament in the pinkie finger.

MLB: The Chicago Cubs and free agent Cody Bellinger agreed to a three-year, $80 million contract, ESPN reported late Saturday. The deal includes opt-outs after each of the first two years. If he stays for the length of the deal, Bellinger will earn $30 million in each of the first two years and $20 million in the final year.

College football:

Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinato­r Eric Bieniemy is heading back to college and will join the staff of new head coach DeShaun Foster at UCLA, he confirmed to ESPN. ESPN reported that Bienemy is finalizing a two-year deal to both serve the same post and become the associate head coach at UCLA.
