This is the collaboration we never saw coming and didn’t think we needed but most definitely did.
Mr. 305 recently teamed up with the country icon for “Powerful Women,” an ode not just to the single mom who raised him in Little Havana, but also to all the other worker bees out there slogging it out until Medicare age (or in this case, when their kids hit it big.)
The catchy mash-up features a sample from Parton’s 1980 hit “9 to 5,” the soundtrack of the movie of the same name in which she co-starred about three secretaries who get revenge on their boss from hell.
“All my powerful women working 9 to 5,” the Miami superstar, 43, raps in the new song. “Two, three jobs just to survive. All my powerful women, no man at home, raisin’ all the kids alone. All my powerful women, y’all deserve a throne. Keep your head up and stay strong . ... Never give up.”
P and P had the chance to reconnect again in Nashville last Thursday during a stop on his Trilogy tour.
He later shared a snap on social media of the two unlikely pals all smiles.
That night, Pit informed the crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina, about their encounter and joked that the 78-year-old national treasure has something in common with his signature catchphrase.
“Clearly,” he joked, “she’s Dolly, and I’m Dale.”
The Trilogy tour, with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin, hits Florida this weekend, starting at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on Friday night and moving to Amelie Arena in Tampa on Sunday night.
