THE CITY’S NEWEST WELLNESS TREND HAS ON-THE-GO CHICAGOANS LINING UP TO JUST. SIT. STILL.
The city’s newest wellness trend has Chicagoans lining up to just… sit… still.
In today’s mile-a-minute world, slowing down is the ultimate indulgence—and three Chicago wellness studios are giving locals a place to take a super-soothing mental break.
Forget incense, chakra cleansing, and gurus: Chill makes meditation approachable for the average busy professional. Opened in April by a yogi and a hedgie, the 4,000-square-foot studio near the Merch Mart encourages members to pop in for 30-minute guided sessions followed by a chair massage (clothes on!). While you recharge your mind, recharge your iphone: Each locker is fitted with a USB port. Classes from $22. 222 W. Kinzie St., 312-222-1442; chillchicago.com
Sound practitioner Elizabeth Meador, owner of Anatomy Redefined, will give you a hug when you enter her studio in the West Loop. Then she’ll immerse you in a “sound bath.” You won’t get wet, but you will float away—the bronze gongs she plays for an hour are tuned to the exact vibration of various planets to put attendees into a deeply restorative state. Expect snoring. Classes from $30.

Breathe Bar brings meditation to you: Owner Sylvia Maldonado and her “faculty” of experts can create a cozy space within your office’s corporate walls so that a teacher can turn up to lead stress-relieving classes on demand. The result: a happier, healthier workforce. Session prices by request; mybreathebar.com
