Lopez-rios to travel ‘500 Years’ in a night

Michelle Lopez-rios will give a staged reading of her play “500 Years” Monday at the Skylight Bar & Bistro on the second floor of the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway.

In the one-actor play, Lopez-rios plays a 500-year-old Latina woman who considers her life and adventures from a 16th-century Spanish court to Milwaukee today.

An associate professor of voice and speech at the University of WisconsinM­ilwaukee, LopezRios has performed with First Stage and Milwaukee Chamber Theatre.

“500 Years” begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is pay-what-you-can. The staged reading is part of MCT’S Montgomery Davis Play Developmen­t Series.

Bradley talks about U.s.-china history

Wisconsin native James Bradley will speak about his new book, “The China Mirage: The Hidden History of American Disaster in Asia,” at 7 p.m. May 6 at the Milwaukee Public Library’s Centennial Hall, 733 N. 8th St.

Bradley’s book explores the complicati­ons of U.s.-china relations from the 19th century through World War II and the rise of Mao. The intersecti­on of the United States and Asia is Bradley’s specialty; his earlier books include “Flags of Our Fathers,” which Clint Eastwood turned into a movie. Bradley is the son of one of the men who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima.

Admission is free.

Milwaukee labor’s history in song

In Good Company will explore, in a musical way, the history of labor in Milwaukee in “Living Life in Ten Acts” May 8-10 at Next Act Theatre, 255 S. Water St.
