WON: Divine Savior Holy Angels senior Arike Ogunbowale earned a spot on the USA Basketball 3x3 U-18 team for the FIBA World Championsh­ip, June 4-7, in Debrecen, Hungary. She’ll join her teammates from May 29-June 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

HONORED: Bob Jenkyns, who retired as Arrowhead boys swim coach at the end of the season, was recently elected to the hall of fame by the Wisconsin Swim Coaches Associatio­n. The organizati­on also honored a number of area athletes and coaches with end-of-the-season awards:

Girls: Division 1 coach of the year: Amit Kaul, Cedarburg; Division 2 coach of the year: John Douglass, Grafton; Division 2 swimmer of the year: Rachel Munson, Shorewood.

Boys: Diving coach of the year (both divisions): Peter De Tuncq, West Bend; Division 2 diver of the year: Joe Kazabowski, Whitefish Bay.

BASEBALL SHOWCASE: The seventh-annual Wisconsin Top Prospect Showcase by Under Armour is scheduled for June 17 at Concordia University’s Kapco Park. The event is open to players in the classes of 2016, ’17 and ’18 and provides an opportunit­y to play in front of college and profession­al scouts. SELECTED: Former Racine Prairie standout Gabbi Ortiz was one of 34 players selected to attend the USA Basketball Women’s U-19 World Championsh­ip team trials. Trials to select the 12-player team will be held May 14-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ortiz averaged 8.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.5 assists per game for Oklahoma last season. She was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. In addition to the World Championsh­ips, Ortiz also may be considered for the 2015 Pan American Games and World University Games teams.

RECORD-BREAKER: Former Menomonee Falls softball standout Hailey Mohrfeld has set a single-season record for hits at Uw-green Bay. The senior shortstop has 60 hits, three more than the previous record.

She entered the week hitting 22 for 29 (.759) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI. Heading into play Wednesday, Mohrfeld led the Phoenix in batting average (.447), RBI (29) and stolen bases (14).
