WEDNESDAY HIGHLIGHTS

- Gracenote

7 p.m. WMVS The Mystery of Matter: Search for the Elements Emmy-winning actor Michael Emerson (“Person of Interest,” “Lost”) is the host of this new three-part miniseries that, as the title indicates, delves into the history and mysteries of what the world literally is made up of. The opening hour, “Out of Thin Air,” traces the efforts of scientists Joseph Priestley and Antoine Lavoisier to find new elements — with chemist Humphry Davy also getting in on the hunt. The other two episodes follow immediately.

7:30 p.m. FAM Young & Hungry On the summer premiere of this hit sitcom, Gabi (Emily Osment) is nervous to see what kind of reception she will get from Josh (Jonathan Sadowski) as she returns from her internship in Switzerland in the new episode “Young and How Gabi Got Her Job Back.” Josh, meanwhile, spies on his new neighbor after Gabi begins working for him, concerned that the guy might have designs on his pretty new chef. Aimee Carrero, Kym Whitley and Rex Lee also star.

8 p.m. WTMJ Mr. Robinson Craig’s (Craig Robinson) attention is divided in a very big way in the new episode “Can’t Buy Me Love.” While trying to save his job and Jimmy’s (Ben Koldyke) by staging a fundraising auction, he’s distracted by Victoria’s (Meagan Good) potential move to New York. The show’s season finale, “School’s Out for Summer,” follows — featuring the veteran music group Earth, Wind & Fire in a story that finds Craig tempted by an offer to go on a year’s tour with them.

8 p.m. WVTV A Wicked Offer An Ohio couple wanting to provide as well as they possibly can for their young sons, and to pay off some debt, are the monetary temptation targets in the new episode “A Session Confession.” Jake and Samantha end up in the positions that all the contestants on this program do ... having to weigh the promise of their own financial security against agreeing to place some of their unsuspecting friends and relatives in questionable situations.

8 p.m. USA Suits As she and her mother, Laura (guest star Megan Gallagher), plan Rachel’s (Meaghan Markle) dream wedding, Rachel starts to worry the event might expose Mike’s (Patrick J. Adams) secret in the new episode “Uninvited Guests.” At the office, Daniel Hardman and Jack Soloff (David Costabile, John Pyper-Ferguson) make their move against Jessica (Gina Torres), while Harvey (Gabriel Macht) tangles with Daniel’s mysterious backer and Louis (Rick Hoffman) tries to find Jack’s Achilles heel.

9 p.m. WTMJ Last Comic Standing This show’s season clearly is moving right along, proven by the fact it’s already reached “The Semifinals — Part 1,” as this episode’s title confirms. Wanda Sykes (an executive producer here) serves as guest mentor as 20 comedians try to secure a spot in the top 10, but only five will be chosen ... as also will be the case in the upcoming second half of the semifinals. Roseanne Barr, Norm Macdonald and Keenen Ivory Wayans are the judges. Anthony Jeselnik hosts.
