Holland played football at UW

A memorial service will be held in Wheaton, Ill., Saturday for University of Wisconsin football Hall of Famer and business executive Louis Holland, who died Feb. 16 at the age of 74 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, according to his family.

Born in Racine, Holland attended Union Grove High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track.

He also ran track for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he played halfback for the Badgers football team from 1961-’63. During his career with the Badgers, Holland was a three-year letter winner, rushing for 934 yards and 22 touchdowns, while also catching nine touchdown passes and throwing for three more.

The team had a 19-9 record over those seasons that included a Rose Bowl game against the University of Southern California in 1963, a game the Badgers lost, 42-37.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agricultur­al economics, Holland played for the Chicago Bears and the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League, winning the1964 Grey Cup title as a member of the Lions.

He went on to a 40-year career as an investment management executive and entreprene­ur, co-founding Hahn, Holland and Grossman in1983 and Holland Capital Management L.P. in 1991.

During his business career, Holland appeared on TV shows that included CNN’s “Moneyline” and “Wall Street Week” with Louis Rukeyser.

In 2011 Holland was inducted into the University of Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and five children.

Visitation for Holland will be Friday from 4-9 p.m. at the Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, Ill. The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 424 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn, Ill.
