ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES: Minnesota waived veteran guard Kevin Martin on Tuesday and signed center Greg Smith from the DLeague, bringing its roster to 14 players. Ricky Rubio scored 22 points and Zach LaVine 21 in the Timberwolves’ 104-98 home loss to Washington on Wednesday night, but the Wizards reserves outscored the Timberwolves bench, 64-18. Center Karl-Anthony Towns was named the Western Conference rookie of the month for February, his fourth consecutive monthly honor. He led all rookies in scoring (21.1 ppg), rebounding (11.8 rpg) and minutes (34.6 mpg) while posting double-doubles in nine of 11 games. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft had a 35-point, 11-rebound showing in a victory against Toronto on Feb. 10, and he contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds Wednesday vs. the Wizards. The Timberwolves finished February with a 5-6 record following a 128-101 loss in Dallas on Sunday.
