Daly will play in Madison
John Daly, a two-time major champion and one of the most popular players in the game, has committed to play in the inaugural American Family Insurance Championship, June 24-26 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. The PGA Champions Tour event is hosted by Madison resident Steve Stricker.
Daly committed to the tournament before his 50th birthday on April 28, when he officially becomes eligible to play on the Champions Tour. He is scheduled to make his tour debut May 4-6 at the Insperity Invitational in The Woodlands, Texas.
Known for his prodigious drives and colorful clothes, Daly won the 1995 British Open and the 1991 PGA Championship and recorded three other PGA Tour victories. He burst onto the scene at the ’91 PGA, when he gained entry to the tournament only after eight other alternates failed to occupy a last-second spot vacated by Nick Price. Without the benefit of a single practice round, Daly overwhelmed the course, field and spectators with his power, winning by three shots.
Daly joins more than 60 players who already have committed to the American Family Insurance Championship.
