BuenaVista

A new restaurant called BuenaVista is expected to open in the former Porticello on Silver Lake in Oconomowoc by the end of March, with a finer-dining atmosphere on the upper level and a pub on the lower level.

The restaurant, at 685 Valley Road, would serve menu items such as steak and pastas upstairs and burgers downstairs, said spokeswoman Mary Jane Sanchez.

BuenaVista also plans to sell menu items to go, expected to appeal to boaters docking at the eight slips the restaurant wants to add by early summer, Sanchez said. It also will have a summertime patio seating 20.

The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

BuenaVista is owned by Ariel Bermudez, chef Antonio Jarana and Albaro Cortez, who operates La Cabaña in Hubertus. They’re leasing the building from Memet Islami, who bought it a little over a year ago.

Porticello opened in 2008 (amid controversy, as the state sued the city over the building’s proximity to the lake). It closed in 2010. Last year, new John Hawks Pub owner Sonni Islami said he would open a branch of the Milwaukee pub at the site, but the restaurant never opened.
