Madison — Wisconsin teammates Ryan Ramczyk and Corey Clement traveled unusual paths to achieve the same honor: First-team all-Big Ten pick.

Ramczyk, a redshirt junior who has started all 12 games at left tackle, was a consensus first-team pick.

Clement, who has played in 11 games this season after missing most of last season because of a sports hernia, was a firstteam pick by the coaches and second-team pick by the media.

Redshirt junior tight end Troy Fumagalli and redshirt sophomore guard Beau Benzschawel were second-team picks by the coaches and thirdteam picks by the media.

Redshirt sophomore Michael Deiter, who has started eight games at center and four at left guard, and redshirt junior wide receiver Jazz Peavy were consensus honorable mention picks.

Peavy leads UW in receptions (39), receiving yards (582) and touchdown catches (five). Fumagalli finished the regular season with 38 receptions, the No. 2 mark on the team, for 467 yards.

Ramczyk was a firstteam all-state pick as a senior at Stevens Point High School. He turned down a scholarship offer from Paul Chryst, who was the head coach at Pittsburgh at the time, and decided to stay home and learn to be a welder.

He eventually decided to give football another shot and played two seasons at UW-Stevens Point before transferring to UW. He sat out last season but has been the No. 1 left tackle since the first day of spring ball.

Clement was limited to 221 rushing yards in four games last season. Healthy for all but one game this season, Clement finished the regular season second in the league in rushing at 103.6 yards per game. He has 13 touchdowns, the No. 2 mark among Big Ten running backs.

Sagapolu progresses: Sophomore nose tackle Olive Sagapolu expects to wear less restrictive padding on his injured right arm this week.

Sagapolu missed five games before returning last week against Minnesota. He wore a cast covered by a protective wrap that covered his entire hand. The padding this week should allow him to move his fingers.

“I get to actually grab instead of just sticking my arm out there,” he said after practice Wednesday. “We’ll see if it’s effective or not.”

Sagapolu was hurt against Ohio State but didn’t learn the severity of the injury until after the game.

“My hand felt kind of weird,” he said. “So I showed them (trainers). They taped it up and I played the rest of the game. We took some Xrays and I had to sit out.”
