Boy had blunt force trauma

Four arrested in 7-year-old’s death

- ASHLEY LUTHERN MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

A 7-year-old Milwaukee boy suffered bluntforce trauma injuries to his body before his death, police said Thursday.

Authorities have arrested four people in connection with the death of Trevion M. Winningham, including a woman previously convicted of neglecting a baby who was tortured in her home and died from his injuries.

Police say Trevion's death is being investigated as a homicide.

Trevion was taken to a hospital Tuesday from a home near S. 19th St. and W. National Ave., according to police. He had suffered numerous injuries — details of which have not been disclosed — and died at the hospital several hours later, authorities said.

Police quickly arrested two women, 47 and 44, in his death. Officers also arrested two men, 47 and 23, Wednesday afternoon. The men were arrested under possible charges of failure to act to prevent bodily harm.

The Journal Sentinel typically does not name uncharged suspects, and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The 44-year-old woman was convicted of fatal child neglect in the 2003 death of a 1-year-old boy, Bryan, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison and four years of extended supervision, court records show. The woman was released from supervision in October 2008.

Bryan was severely abused during a twoweek period in the woman's home. He had bruises all over his body and developed gangrene in his left arm, which had been broken twice. A prosecutor on the case said Bryan was "literally tortured," according to a transcript.

The woman's sister, then 19, and her daughter, then 17, were convicted of inflicting the abuse that led to his death. The sister remains in prison serving a 17-year sentence, while the woman's daughter remains on extended supervision with the state Department of Corrections.
