She was charged in son’s death

A 25-year-old woman who was charged with failure to prevent the abuse that killed her 3year-old son was found dead Wednesday of an apparent drug overdose, according to reports released Thursday.

Megan K. Scott had a pending court case related to the death of her son, Aiden Archer, who died in 2015 after suffering brutal injuries, including at least 11 bite marks, during a beating inflicted by Scott’s thenboyfriend Maurice Snyder, according to a criminal complaint.

Aiden, who was autistic, had numerous serious injuries — multiple bruises, cuts and brain swelling — and was taken to a hospital where he remained on life support for several days.

Court records described Scott and Snyder as heroin addicts, and police found needles in their bedroom while investigating Aiden’s death.

Snyder, 28, pleaded no contest and was found guilty last month to amended charges of second-degree reckless homicide and three counts of physical abuse of a child. He is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 6.

Scott was scheduled for a plea and sentencing hearing Dec. 16. She tested positive for opiates in early November and was taken to jail, but posted her bail on Nov. 23 and was released, according to a medical examiner’s report.

When relatives had not heard from her for several days they asked her housemate, who is physically disabled and often went days without seeing Scott, to check on her, the report states.

The housemate found Scott unresponsive on her bed and drug paraphernalia was located in the room, according to the reports. Her cause of death remains under investigation pending toxicology testing.
