Haebig, Hosack shine

Both swimmers excel to lead teams at state

- DAVE BOEHLER SPECIAL TO THE JOURNAL SENTINEL

After Cedarburg’s Katie Drabot won the Journal Sentinel’s area swimmer of the year award the last three seasons, she took her talents to Stanford, which allowed others to shine.

From Grafton’s Autumn Haebig setting two state records at the Division 2 championship to Cedarburg’s Lillie Hosack making first-team all-area in three events, it was by no means a down year for the locals.

Arrowhead finished 111⁄2 points ahead of Cedarburg for third place at the Division 1 state meet, and Grafton placed third at Division 2 for the second year in a row.

Here is a look at the allarea team:

She placed second at state with 473.80 points after a third-place showing as a sophomore.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Alyssa Bauer, New Berlin Eisenhower.

The fifth-year coach led the Lions to their best finish by claiming fourth place at Division 2 state. Eisenhower placed in the top seven in each year Bauer was at the helm but had not finished better than fifth in her first season. The Lions, who finished 26th in 2009, also benefited from having a new pool at the school.
