Wipfli acquires Waukesha company

Benes & Krueger adds construction expertise

- PAUL GORES

Wipfli LLP has acquired Waukesha-based Benes & Krueger, adding more construction industry expertise to the growing Milwaukee accounting and business consulting firm.

“Businesses in the construction industry are facing unprecedented challenges and can benefit greatly from working with a firm with deep resources and expertise in their industry,” Rick Dreher, managing partner of Wipfli, said in a statement. “Benes & Krueger’s services greatly complement and expand our capabilities to have a positive impact on our construction clients’ businesses.”

In the merger with Wipfli, Benes & Krueger’s 10 employees, including the firm’s two co-founders — Michael Benes and Keith Krueger — will be based in Wipfli’s Milwaukee office. Benes & Krueger was founded in 1990.

“Benes & Krueger has been a strong competitor and friend of our firm for many years,” said John Schwab, leader of Wipfli’s construction and real estate practice. “By combining forces, we greatly enhance our audit and tax teams and bring outstanding consulting expertise to the construction market that will position us to be a full-service asset to our current and future clients.”

Wipfli, with more than 1,700 employees, has become a top U.S. accounting firm as it has made acquisitions and expanded over the past few years. The acquisition is keeping with Wipfli’s strategy of seeking firms with similar cultures that add to Wipfli’s key client industries: construction real estate, manufacturing, distribution, health care, financial institutions, nonprofits/ government and dealerships.
