Aldi grocery planned for Miller Park Way
One of last open sites would be used
An Aldi supermarket is being planned for one of the last open development sites on Miller Park Way, where a Sendik’s Food Market recently opened.
The Aldi store would be developed at 2172 Miller Park Way, according to the newly issued West Milwaukee Plan Commission agenda. The commission is to discuss the potential development at its Tuesday night meeting.
The grocery store would replace a vacant industrial building that formerly housed Deutsch & Sons Co., a prototype manufacturer.
Deutsch & Sons moved last fall to N29 W22885 Marjean Lane in Pewaukee after more than 70 years in West Milwaukee.
The company sold its Miller Park Way property in August to Midwest Acquisitions LLC for $1.05 million, according to state real estate records.
Midwest Acquisitions is led by Joseph Wagner, chief executive officer of commercial property management, brokerage and development firm Greywolf Partners Inc., which has offices in Milwaukee, Sun Prairie and Minneapolis.
Neither Wagner nor an Aldi spokesman could be immediately reached for more information Monday.
Additional information on the proposed store wasn’t immediately available from West Milwaukee officials.
Aldi is the nation’s largest operator of limited-assort-
ment supermarkets.
That niche focuses on core items and doesn’t typically have the delis, fresh meat counters, instore bakeries and other features found at larger operators such as Sendik’s and Pick ’n Save.
The German-based chain has been operating larger stores in recent years, including one that opened in October at 6720 W. Brown Deer Road, Brown Deer.
That 18,000-squarefoot store replaced a smaller Aldi grocery at 8080 W. Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee.
Also, Aldi opened an 18,500-square-foot store in Mukwonago in December 2015.
And Aldi has been experimenting with adding bakeries to some stores, including locations in Pewaukee, Greenfield and Oak Creek.
Miller Park Way has been redeveloped from vacant industrial sites to retail businesses over the past 15 years.
One of the latest projects, a 40,000-squarefoot Sendik’s supermarket, opened in November at 4200 W. Burnham St.
