Caleb Swanigan hit a free throw with 5 seconds left and No. 20 Purdue held off an Ohio State comeback to win, 76-75, Thursday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State’s Trevor Thompson tied the score at 75 with a layup with 15 seconds left but missed a subsequent free throw. Swanigan was fouled on the other end and hit his first free throw and missed the second. C.J. Jackson grabbed the rebound, but his three-point try at the buzzer was off the mark.

Swanigan and Vincent Edwards paced Purdue (13-3, 2-1 Big Ten) with 16 points apiece.

Jae’Sean Tate scored 17 points for Ohio State (10-5, 0-2 Big Ten) and Marc Loving added 14.

(4) Gonzaga 95, San Francisco 80: Nigel Williams-Goss scored a career-high 36 points, and the vistiting Zags (15-0, 3-0 WCC) used accurate shooting all over the court to beat an inexperien­ced USF team (11-5, 1-2).

(5) UCLA 81, California 71: Bryce Alford scored 16 of his 24 points in a dominant first half and TJ Leaf had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Bruins (15-1, 2-1 Pac-12) downed the Golden Bears (10-5, 1-2) at Pauley Pavilion.

Minnesota 70, Northweste­rn 66: Amir Coffey scored 17 points and Nate Mason hit eight free throws in the final 26 seconds to lead the Gophers (14-2, 2-1) over the visiting Wildcats (12-4, 1-2). HORIZON

Northern Kentucky 83, Youngstown State 70: Cameron Morse tallied 13 points to push his career point total to 1,000, but the Penguins (7-9, 1-2) couldn’t keep pace with the Norse (11-5, 2-1) in Highland Heights, Ky.

Wright State 55, Cleveland State 51: Steven Davis had 15 points and Mark Alstork added 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Raiders (11-5, 2-1) edged the Vikings (5-10, 1-2) in Dayton, Ohio. WOMEN

UW-Green Bay 75, Valparaiso 36: Mehryn Kraker, who had a game-high 22 points, outscored the Crusaders, 18-15, in the first half as the division-leading Phoenix (12-2, 3-0 Horizon) cruised past the host Crusaders (5-9, 0-3).
