Madison ranked as America’s most caring, active city

- CHELSEY LEWIS MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

Congratulations, Madison.

Not on that Badgers win. (Although props for that as well.) No, congratulations for being the most caring and the most active city in America.

The personal finance website WalletHub ranked the state capital as the country’s most caring city based on factors including percentage of income donated to charity, volunteering hours per capita and the share of sheltered homeless people.

Milwaukee was No. 38 on the list of 100 cities, but the Brew City came out on top for having the highest percentage of residents doing favors for neighbors.

Madison also ranked at the top of WalletHub’s list of the country’s best cities for an active lifestyle. The website looked at 30 factors including average monthly fitness club fee, bike score and share of physically inactive residents.

Milwaukee came in at No. 38 on that list as well.

Wisconsin beer festival among best

The Great American Beer Festival is known as one of the best beer festivals in the world. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a festival inspired by GABF is creeping up the ranks of great beer events.

Paste magazine included Madison’s Great Taste of the Midwest on its list of 12 beer festivals you have to attend in 2017, noting that it “is one of the harder tickets to find.”

Tickets go on sale in Madison in May and must be purchased in person or via a mail-in lottery system.

Great Taste of the Midwest was started by the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild in 1983 and today features more than 1,000 beers from around the globe.
