Gurda’s temper tantrum

-

I read with interest the column by John Gurda (“Make America hate again?” Crossroads, Jan 1).

It’s unfortunate that Gurda and the left automatically resort to blame assignation and name-calling while engaging in what amounts to a temper tantrum. Gurda goes through a litany of misdeeds committed against immigrants over the past 170 years. Most would not disagree with that assessment. However, in America those prejudices can and have been overcome with hard work and determination.

Gurda seems to think that if you support Donald Trump you must be a racist and anti-immigrant. I would beg to differ. I would venture a guess that most people are not opposed to legal immigration. I would also guess that most people are opposed to illegal immigrants coming to America to have their existence subsidized by the American taxpayer. Gurda failed to make the differentiation. I would think that most people are really opposed to criminal illegal immigrants.

When Gurda waxes nostalgic about immigration he omits some of the facts. New legal immigrants used to learn our language and take citizenship classes. These days we have enclaves of immigrants who have zero interest in absorbing the culture of the new host country.

I think that the best way to be successful in America is to enter legally, quit whining, get a job and keep it.
