Task force not needed
Time is money. The creation of a task force to look into the landlord problem that the Journal Sentinel recently outlined — in depth and that is well-understood by the expert drafters of LLC law — is a waste of time and public and human resources.
The “package of legislation aimed at giving the city greater power to deal with problem landlords” is, similarly, superfluous — vanity of vanities, chasing the wind (“Task force on LLCs sought,” Jan. 5).
In recognition of common sense, and duly qualified experts, I note, the solution to the problem is quite simple: “diligence in going after bad actors ... use the tools that exist… consistently .”(“Don’ t change the law,” Jan. 6).
One cannot solve a problem unless and until one has accurately identified the problem. Any attempt to solve a problem that is misconstrued will, necessarily, miss the mark. There is no need to learn how the landlords exploit the law — that is known. Improve the “game plan?” Seriously? The problem has to do with the fact that the law is vulnerable to exploitation. It demands action — intelligent, coherent, efficient use of public resources. No more useless yet (perhaps) intellectually stimulating conversation.
