Gold Standard could employ 300

A Chicago wholesale bakery plans to open a new facility in Pleasant Prairie, a move that could eventually bring 300 jobs to the Kenosha County community.

Gold Standard Baking Inc. plans to lease a 204,400-square-foot light industrial building that was developed by CenterPoint Properties on 12 acres at 10490 88th Ave. That site, at the southwest corner of Highway 165 and Highway H, is in LakeView Corporate Park.

The company expects to have about 90 employees at the bakery during its first year, according to a village Plan Commission report. It would eventually have about 300 employees when fully used, the report said.

Gold Standard plans to operate the bakery 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to the report.

The company hopes to begin operations this spring after equipment is added to the building, said Jean Werbie-Harris, community development director.

Gold Standard President and Chief Executive Officer Yianny Caparos couldn't be immediately reached Monday for more information.

The company bakes croissants, danishes and other thaw-and-serve products for supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants.

The company in 2015 announced it would expand its Chicago bakery in connection with an investment by Parallel49 Equity, a private equity firm.
