Wrestler of the week: Parker Keckeisen, Nicolet. Keckeisen, a sophomore, has rocketed to the top of the wiwrestling.com Division 1 rankings at 170 pounds this year with a 21-0 record. He won his second consecutive tournament by claiming the 170 title at the Bauer Brawl last weekend at West Allis Hale with a 24-9 technical fall posted in 5 minutes 39 seconds over Franklin junior Murphy McCutcheon (3-1) in the final. At the tournament, Keckeisen won with two technical falls and a major decision. The previous week, Keckeisen won the prestigious Mid-States Classic at Whitewater by defeating Sun Prairie senior Will Van Pietersen by a 32-20 major decision in the 170 final. Keckeisen has emerged as the best wrestler from Nicolet since Jim Wolf won the 103-pound WIAA title with a 26-0 record in 1962. There were no divisions in 1962.

Team of the week: Kenosha Bradford. The Red Devils, ranked No. 7 in the area, won the eight-team Bradford Invite over the weekend and had three wrestlers remain undefeated on the season. Bradford scored 190 points to easily win the tournament. New Berlin West/Eisenhower, ranked No. 9 in the area, finished second with 139 points, although the team competed with only 11 wrestlers. Bradford had six overall champions, including freshman Cole Ramos (19-0), sophomore Marco Infusimo (19-0) and sophomore Jake Deates (10-0).

Top rankings: Other than Keckeisen, four other wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in their weight class in Division 1: West Allis Hale junior Peyton Mocco (27-1 at 152), Pewaukee senior Jacob Raschka (22-1 at 195), Beaver Dam senior Wyatt Wells (16-0 at 220) and Pewaukee senior Blaze Beltran (22-1 at 285). In Division 2, Wisconsin Lutheran senior German Fitzgerald (20-2) is ranked No. 1 at 220. His only losses this year are to Wells.

Cheesehead knocks, lifts: Both Raschka and Beltran saw their undefeated seasons go by the wayside at the Cheesehead Invitational at Kaukauna last week as area wrestlers watched dreams of a nationally-ranked championship fall by the wayside. Raschka finished third and Beltran finished second. But the stock of Mukwonago’s Aric Bohn and Arrowhead’s Keegan O’Toole rose after the tournament. O’Toole finished fifth at 113 and rose to No. 2 in the state rankings at 113 while Bohn jumped to No. 3 at 220 after finishing third. Raschka remains the only area wrestler ranked in the nation at The Open Mat. He sits at No. 10 at 195.

Heavy news: Also at the Bauer Brawl, Muskego senior Jorin McGuire (15-4) knocked off Milwaukee King senior Liam Arnold (15-1) in the final at 285 in a battle of top-ten wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament a year ago. McGuire ranked No. 5 and Arnold is ranked No. 6.
