AROUND THE AREA

NOMINATED: Milwaukee Riverside’s Terrence Lewis has been nominated to play in the boys McDonald’s All-American basketball game. Kenosha St. Joseph’s Sidney Cooks and Divine Savior Holy Angels' Ovi Young are nominated to play in the girls contest.

The games are set for March 29 at the United Center in Chicago. Twenty-four boys and 24 girls will participat­e from the hundreds nominated.

Former Milwaukee King standout Jordan Poole, who is playing his senior season at La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Ind., also made the list.

Only seniors can be nominated. The final rosters will be announced Sunday during an 8:30 p.m. broadcast on ESPNU.

Beloit Memorial’s Chris Knight was the only other boy from the state to make the list. Other girls nominees are: Verona’s Alex Luehring, Marshall’s Elizabeth Lutz, Madison Edgewood Estella Moschkau and Whitewater’s Myriama Smith-Traore.

CITY REVIEW: The third-annual City Review is scheduled for Jan. 27 at the BMO Bradley Center. The first two years of the event, which feature City Conference basketball teams, were held at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Here is the schedule: Hamilton boys vs. Marshall boys, 3 p.m.; Languages girls vs. King girls, 4:30; Riverside boys vs. Washington boys, 6:30; Vincent boys vs. King boys, 8 p.m.

Adult tickets purchased in advance are $8 and $10 on game day. Tickets can be bought at the Bradley Center ticket office, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online at Ticketmast­er.com. Students can by tickets in advance for $6 at participat­ing schools, at the MPS athletic office at 5225 W. Vliet St., room 163

INTERNATIO­NAL BOWL: A handful of area players will play in the Internatio­nal Bowl Jan. 17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, against national teams from Canada. Franklin freshmen offensive linemen Gavin Meyer and Cameron Wilson will play for the U-16 Select team. Oak Creek offensive lineman Ben Ziolkowski will play for the U-16 National team.

AROUND THE STATE

SELECTED: Cedar Grove-Belgium senior quarterbac­k Josh Weiss was a second-team selection on the CBS MaxPreps Small Schools All-American football team. He threw for 4,231 yards this past season and led the Rockets to the Division 5 championsh­ip game.
