College basketball: River Falls handles Whitewater.

-

UW-River Falls happily added to UW-Whitewater’s early conference woes Wednesday night as the Falcons registered a 90-74 victory over the host Warhawks thanks to a balanced offense.

The Falcons (13-1, 3-0 WIAC), ranked No. 7 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, led by double digits most of the second half. They got 15 points from Alex Herink, 13 from Clay Seifert and nine from four others players.

Whitewater, ranked 21st, was a perfect 11-0 when conference play began. The Warhawks, though, find themselves at the bottom of the standings, winless after their first three games in the WIAC.

Derek Rongstad had 15 points to lead Whitewater.

UW-Eau Claire 62, UW-La Crosse 58: George Diekelman and Jack Martinek were too tough for host Eagles (9-5, 1-2 WIAC) to handle as they scored 24 and 16 points, respectively, in leading the 10th-ranked Blugolds (12-2, 2-1) to a victory on the road.

All of Martinek’s points came in the second half.

UW-Stevens Point 71, UW-Stout 68: Ethan Bublitz (8-5, 2-1 WIAC) put the Pointers ahead to stay with a layup with 55 seconds remaining, and then he helped keep the Blue Devils (11-3, 2-1) at bay with four free throws the rest of the way.

MJ Delmore paced Point with 23 points, Bryce Williams chipped in 10 and Bublitz added 10.

UW-Oshkosh 71, UW Platteville 60: Ben Boots, who finished with 15 points, hit 8 of 9 free throws in the second half to help the Titans (9-5, 2-1 WIAC) stave off the host Pioneers (7-7, 0-3)

Carroll 72, North Central 65: Tanner Zaeske helped the Pioneers (8-6, 3-2 CCIW) ward off the Cardinals (8-7, 2-4) with a 24-point performance in Waukesha.

Robert Morris 80, Cardinal Stritch 75: The Wolves (10-10, 6-4 CCAC) were unable to ground the host Eagles (13-4, 9-0) despite a 22-point, 15-rebound effort from Nemanja Knezevic.
